HCDGC Bag Tags

About Bag Tags

Playing for bag tags, or simply, "tags" offers players a way to compete in disc golf year-round.

What are tags, and how do I get one?

At the start of each year, HCDGC Members receive a bag tag in their membership bundle. Tags can also be purchased at leagues for $10. A tag is a physical plastic tag that prominently displays a number. Tags are to be attached to the player's bag or cart until the end of the calendar year. The goal of tags is to have the lowest number tag by year-end.

How do you play for tags?

Players can play for tags during casual rounds and at HCDGC hosted leagues -

HCDGC Tag League Rounds

When playing in a tag league round, every player must surrender their current tag before tee-off. In 2023, all HCDGC league rounds (with the exception of doubles rounds) will play for tags. Once the round concludes, tags are redistributed to players based on their score - The lowest scoring player will go home with the lowest numbered tag available, and the remaining tags will be distributed in order ranked from lowest to highest number.

Casual Tag Rounds

Players can agree before a casual round that they wish to play for tags. When this happens, all players competing for tags must play the same course and layout. At the end of the round, players will redistribute tags amongst themselves based on their scores.

Bag Tag Rules

Based on feedback from HCDGC Members, tag rules have been updated.

While there have been some changes, the #1 tag rule still stands: Be nice to each other.

Low Number Tags

  • Players who hold tag numbers 1-10 (red tags) are required to play in at least three tag league rounds a month. Doubles rounds are not tag rounds.
  • If a player holds a red tag and fails to attend the three required rounds, they must forfeit their tag and will receive the highest tag remaining at the next event they attend.

Casual Round Tags

  • Playing for tags in a casual round must be agreed upon by all players before meeting up for the round.
  • Tag rounds must take place on the same course and layout. For example, players cannot compete for tags when one player is playing long tees and the other is playing shorts.

Challenging Tags

  • If a player is challenged for their tag they must accept the challenge.
  • The challenged player has three weeks from the day of being challenged to come up with an agreed upon date and time to play the challenger.
  • The challenged player picks the course and layout.
  • If the challenged player fails to show up to defend their tag, they must forfeit their tag and take the highest tag of the challenger(s).
